Project Overview

Located at the prominent intersection of EastWashington Avenue and South Blair Street, the Porchlight Housing & ServicesBuilding is a seven-story affordable housing development that combines 70studio apartments with administrative and support service spaces. Positionedwithin walking distance of transit, bicycle infrastructure, grocery stores, andneighborhood amenities, the project provides much-needed housing in one ofMadison’s most connected urban locations.

The building’s architecture is defined bybalanced massing and a contemporary material palette that responds to itshighly visible corner site. A prominent architectural volume marks the primaryentrance and establishes a strong presence at the intersection, while a durablemasonry base anchors the building at the pedestrian level. Expansive storefrontglazing introduces transparency and natural light into the administrativespaces, strengthening the connection between the building and the public realm.

Above, dark metal composite panels contrastwith the lighter masonry base, creating visual depth and a distinctive urbanidentity. Recessed architectural elements, integrated louvers, and carefullycomposed façades provide texture and articulation while maintaining a clean, modern expression. Through thoughtful design and durable materials, the projectcreates a dignified residential environment that supports both its residentsand the surrounding community.
