Project Overview

The Cariad is a mixed-use development providing much-needed housing along a key corridor connecting Middleton and Downtown Madison, while also supporting neighborhood-scale commercial growth through updated ground-floor commercial space. The Cariad includes a mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units to accommodate a range of living needs and is directly served by public transit, offering convenient access to both the City of Middleton and the City of Madison.

The building is thoughtfully sited to take advantage of the site’s level southern portion, while the steep drop-off to the north allows for expansive views of Marshall Park and Lake Mendota. A landscaped patio on the northeast side of the building provides a shared outdoor amenity for residents, and fourth-floor stepbacks create additional outdoor gathering spaces while reducing the perceived scale of the upper levels.

 

The architecture is contemporary and urban in character, with careful attention to rhythm, proportion, and detailing. High-quality exterior and interior materials are utilized throughout the project to reinforce durability and long-term value. Stepbacks, material variation, and articulation help break down the building’s mass and respond sensitively to its surroundings, while maintaining a strong presence along this prominent corridor.
